The visit of Prof. Charles Ng (Hong Kong, China), the new ISSMGE President,
to St. Petersburg

Prof. Charles Ng was elected as the President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering at the World Conference in Seoul (2017). He made his first visit to Russia (St. Petersburg) as the ISSMGE President on April 20, 2018 following the invitation of St. Petersburg geotechnical engineers and Technical Committee 207 “Soil-Structure Interaction”.

The ISSMGE President visited the Institute “Georeconstruction”, where the leading St. Petersburg geotechnical engineers informed on the current scientific research in the field of development of software to support SSI calculations, non-linear models of soils and reinforced concrete, and inventions related to calculations of strains of structures built on permafrost soils.

Moreover, the ISSMGE President and St. Petersburg geotechnical engineers had a meeting in Yusupov’s Palace at the Fontanka River, in the premises of Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University. Prof. Charles Ng delivered the lecture “Three-dimensional simulation of twin tunnelling effects on piles and pile groups”.

The local speakers made the following presentations on the state-of-the-art advancement of St. Petersburg Geotechnical School:

• К.G. Shashkin (Institute “Georeconstruction”) The basic principles of soil-structure interaction calculations;
• О.А. Buryakov (All-Russian Research Institute of Hydrotechnical Engineering named after B.Е.Vedeneev) The experience of conducting long-term in-situ observations of the state of soil hydrotechnical structures in the Far North of Russia;
• V.А. Vasenin (Institute “Georeconstruction”) Long-term observations of settlements of buildings and structures;
• А.G. Shashkin (Institute “Georeconstruction”, St. Petersburg State Transport University) St. Petersburg Geotechnical School.

Proceedings of two Seminars of TC207 ISSMGE – in Dubrovnik in 2011 and Paris in 2013 – are published on our site. You can download PDF-files at Proceedings and Lectures page.

Template for papers preparation for the two Workshops - in Vienna (2016) and Seoul (2017) - is uploaded on the TC207 Website in the Sections News and Conferences and workshops with participation of TС207.

There will be two TC207 Sessions during 19th ICSMGE in Seoul, Korea.
32 scientific papers have been submitted to TC207 Sessions.

The first TC207 Tschebotarioff Lecture is given by Prof. Michele Jamiolkowski in Saint Petersburg. The title of the Tschebotarioff Lecture is "Zelazny Most Copper Tailings Depository Numerical Analysis of Deep Vertical shafts".

Announcement on TC207 International Conference in Saint Petersburg on 16-18 June 2014. Theme of the conference is Soil-Structure Interaction. Underground Structures and Retaining Walls.
The conference will open with the first ТС 207 honorary Tschebotarioff Lecture to be delivered by Professor M. Jamiolkowski (Polytechnical University of Turin, Italy).

Two Sessions on Foundations and Retaining Structures and the Workshop of TC207 have been successfully conducted during the 18^th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in Paris. The printed Proceedings and CDs have been distributed during the Workshop.

Preparations of the meeting and Workshop of TC207 in Dubrovnik, Croatia (5-8 October 2011), are under way. Organizing Committee has received so far 20 papers from TC members and other potential participants. The Bulletin 2 has been sent to all TC members.

Activities are underway to organize TC207 meeting and workshop on Soil-Structure Interaction and Retaining Walls in Dubrovnik, Chroatia. The workshop will be held on 5-8 October 2011 at Valamar Dubrovnik President Hotel. Please see Meetings of TC207 for details.
